University TV is part of the structure of the Communication Superintendence of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, together with the Communication Agency (AGECOM) and Radio Universitária FM.
Born in 1972 for educational purposes, aiming at transmitting classes from the SACI Project - Advanced Satellite for Interdisciplinary Communications - University Television, the first television generator in Rio Grande do Norte, was for 15 years the only broadcaster of its kind in the state, with programming local.
Throughout its 38 years, TVU has been producing educational, cultural, and journalistic programs in the most diverse formats, in addition to educational and cultural dissemination campaigns. Like other educational broadcasters, TVU plays an important role in the complementary and critical training of the viewer, spreading the knowledge generated by UFRN and contributing to the exercise of citizenship. Thus, TVU turns to society, seeking the participation of the public, either through interaction in its programs, through the telephone, or through research and development of cutting-edge technology and language in the audiovisual area.
Currently, TV Universitária distinguishes itself as the largest producer of local television programs in the state.
As a retransmitter, it broadcasts TV Brasil's programming. As a TV school, it contributes to the training of more than 50 Social Communication students per year, also training graduates from several other areas
